boutique bliss in Hokitika
for the most gorgeous apartments in the small quiet seaside town of Hokitika on New Zealand's south island west coast, looks no further than Fire Station.
this boutique four suite hotel, is a beautifully renovated old fire station; there are trinkets and artifacts from times past and whispers of history in the decor.
in tribute, each apartment is named after a station chief. we stayed in a one bedroom large studio, named after Chief Millard from the 1860s.
it's self contained with a small but functional kitchenette (microwave, Nespresso, bar fridge), a large wet-room bathroom (this apartment is wheelchair friendly), super comfy king size bed, lounge with TV that also let’s you log in to your own Netflix account (great bonus! just don’t forget to log out).
being a small town, it’s centrally located to everything. there is a great cafe across the road (Kitchen) open for breakfast/lunch/dinner, and it’s only a few minutes walk to the pub and supermarket if you prefer to indulge with the locals or do your own cooking.
there is ample parking, a shared laundry and excellent wifi.
Hokitika is tiny, wind swept town surrounded by rough ocean and green grasslands which we we used as a base to explore Punakaiki and the Hokitika Gorge.
